well politics of south asia has trasnformed from the elite/educated group to the group we can fairly call "goons". Also, political dynasty has played a great role as well.
In case of NawabFamily; Few missteps by the later generation such as Khwaja Kairuddin; Khwaja Wasiuddin has caused a nagative publicity. They havent done the wrong thing except that they picked the wrong cards! if Khwaja Khairuddin were to stay in Dhaka to political future instead of taking chances in Karachi, he would have been most likely a top leader...probably a President at some point. Khwaja Wasiuddin should have been more vocal for BD liberation, but his uniform barred him to say so publicly. Also, the later generation like Khwaja Halim had simply a bad luck when the military dictatorship of Ershad installed his own People in every post. And that was the time when politics got corrupted and mostly leaders has muscle rather than wisdom.
There were some speculation in the family of Late Khwaja Sharzil hassan joining the politics after retiring from the Foreign service. Unfortunately his unexpected death at such young age refrain us nawabbarians to climb the political ladder again.
Most of the family elites are now leaving abroad or in Business. They are smart enough to know that due to the change of political climate and branding ourself as "biharis" will not take them far in politcal clout. I would say it will take a generation or two for the NBs to be assimilated completely in the bd and Bengalis to forget about the anti-bd role played by the then political elites during the liberation.
Unless we produce people like Haji Salim in our family, getting a name in politics will be a wishful thought.
Sorry for the spelling errors.

Anonymous posters talking full liberty of the bill of rights and or first amendment, provided herein, by the host of this semi-public webside nawabbari.com. While posting articles about DNF members from ambushing position.

Wah-Wah...Wah Wah, Kya baat hai

Up until very recently, 90%+ of the DNF members are politically inspired by the politics of either Pakistan, malitary and or somewhat Islam based politics. Even after creation of Bangladesh, they seem to par more inline with BNP type political part. Correct me if I am wrong, I feel BNP is nothing more than a new name of the old Muslim League.(please do not think I am an Awami League member).

In urdu they say:

"ZAYHEN-KEE-EIK SCIENCE, EIK AISA MUKSAAD HAI, JIS-MAY, INSAAN KEE HAZARON NUSLEH MUSHKHOOL RAHI HAI"

Actually,

ISKEE NA-HONEH KEH WAJJA SAY khandaan-e-nawabbari" KHAK MAY MILL GAYA. in reality, ZAYHNEE SCIENCE NA HONEH KEH WAJJA SAY ROME BHI MITTEE MAY MILL GAYA THA.

Members of the family must divorce themself from the concept of Religious/Malitary and the politics of the elites. They should learn bengali, bengali culture, visit villages of Bangladesh and help the poors to win their heart. Its very simple!

While economically Bangladesh is now an "AUNGORAJJEYO" of Bharat. I hope and pray like Nawab Salimullah, one will be born among us, who can show Bangladeshis that their salvation to live with dignity in this world lay with massive education of the masses, just like India.

Regardless of whether we speak Urdu or Bengali, we are revered(or feared, maybe even hated. You only fear or hate someone u think is better than u) in Bangladesh.

About political leadership, the family is going thru a brief hiatus now.

One of the main reasons for the family's fall, if you please, was the lack of educated members in the family and also the division of Pakistan (some of our good ones stayed back in Pakistan. Askari bhaijaan also went to Pakistan).

Apparently family members have now realized the importance of education and have started investing in their young ones now.

Some of our young ones are
are going to schools like Harvard, Columbia and Cambridge.

Some are very successful professionals(Engineers, Biochemists, Doctors, Investment Bankers, Accountants) in the US, UK, Canada and other countries.

Some even work for international organizations.

Inshallah, God willing we will reemerge.

We always were and are the ELITE of Bangladesh.

Leadership is in us.

Nawabi doesn't only mean having dollars and pounds in one's rear pocket but also have the guts to do what is right.

To have the fire in one's belly!
'Jo Hoga Dekha Jayega - Allah Malik'

This is what Nawabi is all about!

Yours Truly,
A Relative

Dear "A Relative"
I do appreciate your confindence in NBs ability, but honestly your tone shows a racist massege.
First of all, "gurur" ---proudness is abosolutely dispise by Allah and his beloved Rasul Mohammad (SM).
As per your "brief hiatus "...its not brief when there is almost 50% of the family members are living below the living standard in BD for the past 30 years.
We cannot even find one of NBs who is in the top 100 of 1. Politics 2. Wealth.3. Social Welfare
All is left now is the past to be proud of.
Yes, some of the kids are going to harvard and cambridge..but majority are still working days and night to meet days end in the western world where as Indian and other bangladeshis has become million $ man.
In order to succed we must admit that we are the same human beings as bengalis are.

"We always were and are the ELITE of Bangladesh. " there is no doubt about being elite before, but you must be dreaming that WE ARE STILL ELITE. Either you dont know the defination of Elite or you dont know what the real "Elite" are doing! we are not even close to the The new generation Bengalis ( Top 1% richest).
So please calm down and have a reality check! It is ok, there are alwasy ups and down ....best you can do is to accept the truth and try to make it better! Otherwise, you will live in a lala land for the rest of your life thinking the past and in reality spend the life of a FAKIRA NAWABS!

Another relative of yours who lives in a real world!

Why blame Khairuddin and Wasiuddin for the neagtive publicity about the family !!

Obviously none has been reading history books ! Nazimuddin, Shahabuddin, Habibullah, Hasan Askari and a host lot of others, still to this day are officially branded as "collaborators", "conspirators"etc !!!
Two individual however did a lot to change that and are well repected.
1. K. Kasier (Ambassador to UN)
2. K Shahabuddin ( Ambassador to US in 1990's).

Bangladeshi community in US has lot of praise for both of them !

Anonymous said...

Well that's history. Most people in the present generation don't even know who Nazimuddin, Shahabuddin, Habibullah, Hasan Askari were.

That said, the above mentioned, supported, collaborated and conspired whatever you may say for Pakistan and went there. Nothing wrong with that. That all had one thing in common their principles.

They collaborated because they all believed in a bigger united Pakistan like Sheikh Mujib, who had contested to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan(not Bangladesh) and had won the elections in 1971.

The ironic thing is that in Bangladesh there are those who collaborated with Pakistan and are
still in leadership positions now.

Now, I don't have to name names.
We all know who they are...

A correction for my esteemed friend who wrote before me.

Khwaja Shahabuddin(who was Ambassador in the US) is not from the Dhaka Nawab Family. His parents thought highly of the Family and gave him the last name 'Khwaja'. I believe they may have named after the real 'Khwaja Shahabuddin' who is from the Family.

wow
i 'm glad i started the topic. i choose to stay anonymous for reasons i dont feel the need to explain to strangers. Sharjil uncle was a good man. i am not from the "Nawab" family; my mom is; but i am nevertheless considered an elite in the current society.

i think concerning ourselves with political events and actors of the past is useless.

i have a lot more to say ; but i am tired. will continue later. thanx to your replies.

It doesn’t really matter what principle Nazimuddin, Shahabuddin, Khairuddin, Hasan Askari……..etc believed in ! What matters is they were always on the wrong side and out of touch with the common mass! Their pre-partition(1947 partition) politics was RIGHT, but post partition politics was flawed. Their “United Pakistan” ideology proved fatal and led to the death of at least 1 million people (3 million is no doubt an exaggeration).

Nazi’s believed in “social justice” (remember they were "elected" by the German people !), Communists believed in “Class less society” !

So Sir, what do u suggest Germans, Russians, Italians should all now become proud of Hitler, Stalin, Musolini ?

History is written by Victors not the Vanquished !

Clinging to the past and making “politically incorrect” statements like “we are proud of Nazimuddin, Khairuddin ….etc” is not going to do any good. For ordinary people in Bangladesh, DNF is still considered “Paki Poodle”. Paki bashing and Khwaja bashing goes hand on hand. All one needs to do is get out of Dhaka and talk with ordinary people, specially in the months from December to March !

The only way for DNF to be politically “rehabilitated” is to feel the pulse of the common people Like Sir Salimullah and refrain from any more controversy!

To Awami League,
BNP and Jamaat are also Paki Poodle...

You'll never be able to satisfy everyone !

Paki Poodle or not we love Bangladesh but have a natural affinity with Pakistan because of our physical features and our language.

Having a natural affinity with Pakistan does not mean for those of us who live in Bangladesh to support Pakistan.

For us in Bangladesh, Bangladesh comes first...

Dear Reaz Phuppa-
Excellent post. New generation Bengalis and in this case even the new generation nawabbarian lack the history and contribution of the NBs. Most of the New genration bengalis thinks us pretty racist and pro pakistani due to 1. Us speaking urdu. 2. Not accepting outsiders (bengalis) 3. Mocking them, 4. And some of our "Bad seeds" who act and talk as if we are still superior.
I was wondering if someone in the family or outside of the family can really bring about facts and figures. For example, prior to Bengal partion period when Hindus were dominant in Bangaldesh, muslims were not allowed to have concrete homes except for few distinguish families as us. Due to this families contribution in Muslim league we were able give the muslim thier right. As a matter of fact, the muslims of BD are in these various distinguish position due to that.
Yes, we do have some superioriy complexity; but it is completely natural ...and this complexitly is phasing out as we have become equal to bengalies. Give two more generations, it will be absolutly even. English are still snobbish and suffer in Superiority although they are not even the top 5 countries in the world.
Again, we should have a section in this site about the analytical "What if" scnerio for bengali muslims, if the nawabs of dhaka were absent from the day 1.
