Non-resident Nawabbarian and Future generations

Non-resident Nawabbarian and Future generations

It has been over 250 years since our ancestors migrated from their beloved homeland Kashmir to Bengal, leaving behind all their loved ones -families, friends, home, and the beautiful Kashmir. The place they came to call home was completely different in culture, language, landscape and environment. Even at this strange land, with their hard work, dedication and most of all, Allah’s rahmat and Rasul’s sadka, the ex-Kashmiries became the most powerful and successful family in Bengal and one of the most respected in the Indian subcontinent. They have assimilated the Bengali culture while still preserve their Kashimiri tahzeeb.
Fast forward those 200 plus years, we find these decedents of the ex Kashmiri are on the go again! There are pretty much as many nawabbarians who are out of the country than in the country. From Middle East to all the wild west of America, we can see their existence.
Questions are: can we repeat the success of our ancestors? Or our culture will vanish among the more dominant western culture? Can our future generation will carry on the legacy or simply cave in the Hollywood culture? Can we assimilate the western culture while keeping up ours? Will there be new names within the family in the US, UK Canada, Australia who will be remembered as one of a kind such as Sir Salimullah, Khwaja Nazimuddin, Khwaja Kaiser, KM Sharjil Hassan, Khwaja Moinul Hassan ?

Basically our faith has been pretty much sealed. It is now time for us to think about the next kin! I would like to invite all of you to join this discussion as how to develop the new generation who can repeat the success of Par par Dada Kashmiri!

Also, please forward your children’s accomplishment news to us so that we can show it to the world that we are not dead yet! Send us news such as recipient of President’s award or getting accepted to Oxford or Harvard etc.
We are a proud family. We are proud because, Allah has blessed our family with outstanding stars in every generation. Let’s continue it and make it better.

Best Regards,
Arshad

"News Flash"

Assalaamu Alaikum,
Kudos to those who set up this blog.

Nawab Bari Bloggers, I am joining this blog in hopes to have some serious discussions that require critical thought. It's great to congratulate those who have wed or had babies, but why is it that Nawabarians are always preoccupied with matrimony and indulgence in glorifying ourselves?

Is anyone interested in discussing issues such as the potential ramifications for Bangladeshis abroad as a result of Iran's decision to enrich uranium and donate $50 million to the Palestinian Authority? Or how members of the Bangladeshi government feel about India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council?

Or, simply, how can we, Nawabarians, support the education of our women? How can we support each other to contribute to society instead of constantly contributing to gossip?

Our ancestors did so much to shape the world...are we up to the challenge to carry on their tradition?

TRUST'S MISTRUST

KHWAJA WASEEM ARZOO WRITES FROM DALLAS:

This morning I heard from Dhaka that ‘Abdullah Welfare Trust’ once again drawing criticism for a generous payout of Tk 10,000 as charity to a family member. Such amount, everyone believes, was sanctioned first time otherwise it was limited to 2000 taka till recently. Members those who approved are alleged to have been supporting agenda of the chairman and his cronies.

In order to clear their position beneficiaries demanded from ‘Abdullah Welfare Trust’ to address issue and decision if it is due to any phenomenal policy change or was just to please someone’s personal agenda? Please don’t get me wrong. I am not against trust or pointing finger to any member, neither have so desired for ‘Trust’ to stop charity or act a penny-pincher as well. Charity undeniably is a noble gesture. But being the welfare trust, it is not an option but an imperative, for them to maintain a uniform policy for every beneficiary who come to them in need and receive equal treatment.

Best regards.

I would love to see Khawaja Saifullah in Dhaka consider running for Member of Parliament M.P. for up-coming Bangladeshi General Election. All family members should encourage him to run as an independent.

Commending your good work

Salaam all,

Great job on this website. Now I see the pertinence of the constant accolades, weekly updates and consistent discussions about the DNF website in our few but frequent family get-togethers. I finally sat down and navigated through this informative site and I want to give a pat on the back to the entire DNF team (especially Dulabhai, who has toiled endless weekend nights over a glowing flatscreen to complete this project). You have provided a rich resource for our generation, at least those modem/DSL priveleged, a healthy soil to retrace the lineage of their family tree. As one of those kids who have embraced his/her own niche of American modern society and are seldom engrained in the "Khwaja" ancestry, you provide a comfortable backdrop of our historical beginnings and our subsequent achievements. Bravo!

This website should provide a great reference, school aide for our young ones (ergo, family days at school for our Raisas and Emaans) and an overall sense of pride to be a Nawab.

After a bit of perusing, I did find one fault that nipped me consistently. The overall mis-spelling of words used in some passages and reports are constant. I do not mean this in a condescending manner, but the fluent verbage in this entire website would only add to its brillance and novelty.

Once again, keep up the great work.

Love and respect,

Khwaja Mohammed Hassan (Sadat)

2 DAYS GET TOGHETHER AT ATLANTIC CITY

After 2 consicutive success of Nawabbari Picnic, we are planning to extend the fun for two days. We are still in a very primitive talking and would like your input. Here are the highlights:
1. Location: Atlantic city ( it has lots of other attaractions beside casinos! So people who may be offended, please think twice before decideing against going there. Beutiful beach plus lots of other halal funs. Main idea is to spend more than 1 day among us and do some gup shup ..sher shari etc at night...kind of jamboori.
2. Date: To be decided. most likely Saturday and Sunday in June or July.
3. Chanda: most likely none or very minimal, since we are planning the following;
4. Transportation: We will arrange our own tranportations. People who dont have private arrangement or dont want to drive, will be able to take greyhound bus from Manhattan which cost $10 round trip. Once you are there, people with cars will be able to take you to locations where we might visit ( Since the city is small, it takes 10 min to and from a location).
5. Accomodation: we are looking for group discount rates at good hotels. Your idea or source will be helpful. What we are planning is , we will get certain amount of rooms. it will be upto you how many people you would like to stay with in one room. for example if a room cost $100, and you decided that you and your family of 4 will stay only, then it will cost you $100. But if you decide to share with someone, you can share the cost with him . But you will be responsible for paying $100 to us. The person who is willing to stay with you will be responsible to pay his share to you. It is recomemeded to have atleast 10 people in each room, since most of the time we will be outside. You are also welcome to book you own room if you get better pricing.
The reason behind doing so is, first of all "privacy level" varies among individual people. Also, we dont want you to be burden with extra $$ if you want to sacrifice some space.
6. Food: Here we are very confused. We are not sure if we want to arrange picnic type food or want to put the responsibility to bring your own meal or buy it from 100s of restaurants . A typicall buffet food cost about 6$ per person. Some people like I , can survive on donut and coffee others need paratha and biryani. So lets discuss.
Again, what we are planning is that instead of asking for contribution and taking all the headaches for food etc, we are simplifying the process where Anas and Saniya can enjoy as guests not worrying as an organizer. Also this will leave us to plan some fun events during our stay.

How much will it cost for each people? We dont know yet! But certainly more than what you pay for picnic! But it will be a worthed trip and we are trying our best to get a very good hotel rates.

Please post your response as soon as possible. Please call every one to discuss. We must decided the date soon since, we need to give 2 months of advance notice to our employers! And we need to book the hotels soon.

I just read this immigration news on Yahoo! So I thought I'd share it with everyone. - Belal

See original link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060406/ap_on_go_co/immigration
By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent 55 minutes ago

Senate Republicans unveiled revised immigration legislation Wednesday night clearing the way for legal status and eventual citizenship for many of the estimated 11 million men, women and children living in the United States unlawfully.
Majority Leader Bill Frist outlined the proposal after efforts at a bipartisan compromise faltered earlier in the day and the Senate teetered between accomplishment and gridlock on the most sweeping immigration bill in two decades.
Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid pledged to review the GOP proposal overnight to see whether "it could be something we could all support." The prospects appeared uncertain, however, since the provisions appeared similar to what he and other Democrats had earlier spurned.

The fate of the 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally hinged on the outcome of election-year maneuvering on an issue that Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz., said had generated an unusual amount of emotion.
Three thousand miles distant from the Capitol, Cardinal Roger Mahony asked Catholics to pray the Senate passes legislation allowing illegal immigrants to gain citizenship. The Los Angeles-based prelate said the debate marked "one of the most critical weeks in the history of our country."

Republican officials said the GOP plan would divide illegal immigrants into three categories:

• Those who had been in the country the longest, more than five years, would not be required to return to their home country before gaining legal status. They would be subject to several tests, including the payment of fines and back taxes, and be required to submit to a background check, according to these officials.

• Illegal immigrants in the United States less than five years but more than two would be required to go to a border point of entry, briefly leave and then be readmitted to the United States. As with the longer-term illegal immigrants, other steps would be required for re-entry, after which they could begin seeking citizenship, these officials said.

• Illegal immigrants in the United States less than two years would be required to leave the country and join any other foreign residents seeking legal entry.

The officials who described the proposal did so on condition of anonymity, saying the had not been authorized to pre-empt senators.
There was no immediate reaction from the White House, although President Bush has repeatedly called for a comprehensive bill that included steps to deal with those living illegally in the country.

Frist's move cleared the way for a series of test votes over the next day or two on a pair of rival proposals.
The first showdown was set for Thursday, on an attempt by Reid and other Democrats to advance legislation that cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee more than a week ago. While a bipartisan majority supported the bill, it quickly ran into trouble from conservative Republicans, some of whom said it would bestow amnesty on lawbreakers.

"This is a vote that for millions of Americans is a question about whose side you're on," said Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the second-ranking Democrat, adding that unless legislation clears the Senate this week, it may be doomed for the year.

But it appeared destined to gain far fewer than the 60 votes needed to advance, and perhaps less than a majority that would give political bragging rights to Reid in the event the effort to pass legislation eventually collapses.

Nor was it clear that Frist would be able to muster 60 votes for his revised legislation. In addition to Democratic critics, he faced potential defections from some in his own party.

Sen. John Cornyn (news, bio, voting record) of Texas issued a statement late Wednesday that avoided taking a position on the proposal. It said he remains "adamant that we not repeat the mistakes of the 1986 bill, a measure widely viewed as having imposed amnesty on those in the country illegally.

In general, both of the major alternatives would strengthen border security, regulate the flow of future foreign workers and open the way to citizenship for many immigrants who are in the country illegally.

As they have for days, Democrats used their rights on the Senate floor to prevent votes on politically difficult amendments. Republicans criticized them but were unable to thwart the strategy.

How much do we contribute for Begum Bazar graveyard where our loved ones are sleeping?

Is it right time to say no morePAKKA KABAR”?

Dear fellow nawabbarians and non-nawabbarians
After reading many many posts here at the DNF sites, I am really thrilled that the main purpose of this site, to bring together the scattered family of Nawabbari, has been materialized. On the other hand, I am also disturbed to see arguments turned from civilized to mud-slinging and insulting form.
About the picnic posts - First of all Sadat should have been more careful about picking the words. Keep in mind even though the site was created mainly to serve Nawabbarians for many purposes such as contacts, lastest family news, genealogy etc, it is also open to every soul in this world. Also, this site has been created by DNF team to serve as a source for many researchers and historians. Other main purpose of this site is to present the Bangladeshi brethrens the truth about us when, most of the times we are perceived as "traitors", "ruthless rulers", "racist", "pro-Pakistani" and any many more. So, all of us must adhere to the highest possible standard while communicating at this site as well anywhere else:-)
What Sadat meant to say was it will be unfair to allow one family member to bring his friends and say no to others. And if we allow other family member to bring even 1 extra guest per member, the number will swell into 200+. Even though it is completely upto the Picnic organizer to decide what will be the best course of action n a given situation, I would say it will be a heavy burden on them since their work load will multiply. Unfortunately it is only Anas and Saniya with some help from Shadat who managed the whole thing. What we do as the participants that, we only pay our due and take a cool and enjoyable ride to the picnic spot and enjoy the never ending delicacies from Dunkin donut/coffee to Murag Polao to Jhaal muri. After that we simply wipe our mouth and go back home. Some people comment that they did their part by paying the "chanda". Those people should know that Anas and Saniya spends hours to run to every ones home to collect money which takes hundreds of phone calls and hundreds of trips. Spends countless time to order food, pick it up serve it. Spend countless time to arrange for the transportation and picnic spot. Arrange countless time to print t-shirts and may more. What they do is for the love of the family. What we do is simply find ways to criticize them.
I haven't found a single person in the last two years of the PICNIC arrangement who came forward to help that, and it includes me. All we hear is pledges for help! Some people at the bus stop even refused to volunteer picking up goods to and from the bus because they paid "CHANDA"! Well I can tell you that Anas and Saniya paid their chanda and also boiled lots of "Anda" for us!
Anyway, bottom line is, it is quit impossible to accommodate guests for every people who wish to come to the PICNIC. I do have many friends who had expressed their desire to join us. But I had simply refused them in proper manner stating that we do not have enough room for others. It has nothing being a racist nor narrow minded. It is simply a matter of economics. They simply do not have the adequate labor force or volunteers to accommodate more than 100-120 people.
Please consider these matters before you make any un-realistic comment. Instead of risking a total cancellation of the picnic, please at least show some moral support for Anas and Saniya so that they can proceed with planning the 2006 event. In this case they will at least know that what they are doing is being appreciated. If the picnic is not arranged by them, I am pretty sure, none of us will come forward to arrange one. It will be more loss to us than them!
Anyway, here are some of the cool stuffs that will be available soon in the website: Baithak ka Gana! Ramzan Ka shehri! Imagine during the shehri, you can turn on the "Mahe ramzan alvida....." at the
www.nawababari.com
site from anywhere in the world!
We wish you all the best. I on behalf of Anas, Saniya and Belal would like to say that we very grateful that you visit the site and post your comments. But in additional to the negative comments, we also lust for some Taarif from you as well. After all Insaan hi houn humlog!
