Khwaja Tareq: Elected

Khwaja Tareq
has been elected the memeber of the Moulvi Abdullah Welfare Trust for a five year term.He won the seat which was vacant due to Khwaja Saberuddin's resignation earlier this year. The election was supposed to be held on May 5. Earlier Nanna son of Khwaja Nazimuddin (not the PM) had filed nomination paper and withdrew before election. Khwaja Mahmoodi Hassan, ex joint secretary of the ministry of fisheries and livestock withdrew his nomination because of health reason. Now technically K Tareq son of Khwaja Ashraf Ali has been elected uncontested before election. The beneficiaries look forward what he brings to trust.

The other ten current trustees are:
K.M. Arzoo (Life member)
Saker Ahmed (Chairman)
Najmul Huq (Secretary)
K Ishaque (Treasurer)
K Quayyum Reza (Baba)
Imtiazul Huq (Pappu)
K Abdullah
K Manzar Nadim
K.M. Motahar
K Rehan Bakht

Happy to hear that Mr. Tareque Mohammad Ali is selected for a five year term without ballot. Its indeed a relieve, otherwise residents of Nawab Bari had once again come to a close contact with the peril of election since Abdullah welfare Trust announced to hold on the 5th of May. It was for the seat of Mr. Saberudddin who resigned last year. During this peak summer time when electricity is rationed to make living a hell, the election campaign had started into full swing. Talab kinare and around was littered with posters, banners and escalating rhetoric.

This time the candidates were Mr. Khwaja Mahmudi Hassan S/O Late Khwaja Abdul Ghani ( Ladla Mia ), Mr. Tareq Mohammad Ali S/O Late A.Q.M Ashraf Ali and Khwaja Abdul Rehman Nanna S/O. Late Mr. Khwaja Nazemuddin. Speculations were high about Mr. Mahmudi to win with a fair margin. But he suddenly announced to have withdrawn from the race on health ground. And Nanna held back his forces and taken his nomination back leaving all the voters astonished and speculating of a possible under the table arrangement.

Trust’s election seems to have been an annual event. And most alarming is the drop down expenses which peaked to over 3 to 4 lacs every time. If nothing done soon to stop this practice I am afraid to be seeing trust full of unscrupulous. No wonder if elections expenses might have been surged deliberately to keep off those with less financial strength. Trust MUST be advised to adopt new rules to stop horse trading and limit election expenses. It will not only bring down cost but pave way for able people to join and do justice to the beneficiaries.
