Talab Ka Tom
Left:Talab Ka Tom InDublin Ireland, Right: Tom is anchored
Assalamu'alaikum.
I would like to know more about the TOMB of talab.
We heard many stories about it when we were young from our parents that it arrived in the talab flying in a very strong hurricane (before the world war as my father use to say) and also that it came in Diwali bla bla etc etc, but really don't know its origin.
Can someone please forward more details about it, will be highly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards,

What we call “Talab Ka Tom” is actually a Buoy. As we know it is octagon shaped and marked float made of iron, weights around 100lbs.
To learn more about a buoy click the link below:

Yes as per Nana Dadi ka kissa the Tom flew in Lal Toofan... Do they refer to cyclone of 1876 as Lal Toofan? This was the most devastating cyclone in Bangladesh claiming 215,000 lives.
Most likely the Tom drifted away from Buriganga in one of the flood and passed through either Salim Mia’s Galli or Najmuddin Mia’s galli. This got stuck in Talab as water receded. Due to leak at one point it drowned.
The Tom was retrieved from Talab bed in 1979, repaired, painted and made to float again. Due to faulty repair Tom floats at 180 degree instead of 90 degree as per original design.
Tom is now a toy for Baset (master of Tom from Badamtali), which he rides to entertain himself and the passing crowd. His tom riding skill has even been telecast by BTV.
