Khas land worth Tk 1,476 cr recovered 12 December 2005
http://www.bangladeshobserveronline.com/new/2005/12/08/economic.htm

A total of 2,528.60 acres of khas land valued about Taka 1,476.03 crore were recovered from the land grabbers across the country from January to October this year, reports BSS.

This was stated at a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of land on Tuesday in the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Chairman of the committee Advocate Mahbubur Rahman presided over it.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the khas land reclaim committee formed to monitor the activities related to allegations on khas land grabbing. The committee was constituted in February, 2004, with the cabinet secretary its head.

The parliamentary committee suggested forming a committee headed by the secretary of the ministry of land. It will conduct a feasibility study for establishing five new townships in Gazipur and Narayanganj.
The meeting also decided to visit Bhasantek in the city where a project is being implemented to rehabilitate the destitute and lower middle class people.

It discussed the genuine use of the one-year lease agreement and the lease of property of the Court of Awards and the Nawab Estate of Dhaka.

The meeting emphasised the need for proper measures for recording the property of the Nawab Estate, which are being revealed by the current survey, and solution to the issues, which are now under trial.

Members of the committee deputy minister for land advocate Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu, Enamul Haque, advocate Promod Mankin and Mohammad Ali Kadr participated in the discussion while State Minister for Land Ukil Abdus Sattar attended it on special invitation.

Secretary of the land ministry, chairman of the land reform board, chairman of BRTA, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka and other high officials were also present.

Dear members of Dhaka Nawab Family "B" Estate and Moulvi Abdullah Welfare Trust could you please shed some light on the above article and how it affects us as DNF members...

Your comments will be useful for all the DNF members.

This article is not something new. For the benefit of the members of the family I wish to add that I personally went to the Land Registry and land reform office in Dhaka Bangladesh when I was their on holiday and also visited the Dhaka Nawab Estate Manager's Office. There I was shown documents of all Khas lands that still belong to the Dhaka Nawab Family all over Bangladesh, when I asked why noting was being done by the Manager and his staff to retrieve the lands from unauthorised occupation, I was told it was too dangerous to try and remove people who had already been occupying the lands for many years. Unfortunately there is no one living in Bangladesh who is a senior member of the family to approach the Court of Wards and fight for the rights of the Dhaka Nawab family members, the present members of the BE proprietors Association seem to be doing their own things and not bothered about anyone else in the family. The Court of Wards knows that the majority of the Senior members of the family are living abroad and not interested what happens to their properties which others are enjoying. There are a handful of memebers of our family living in Bangladesh who were minors a few years ago and are now major proprietors, they are selling lands and not shareing their spoils with anyone else. I have been informed of many fraudulent things that is happening and nobody is there to stop them. For years we have been let down by the Court of Wards who are supposed to manage our estate with honesty and intregity but that is only a myth.

With unity and honesty members of DNF members can appoint 2 good lawyers full time to recover all the asset.

DNF members can even put pressure on BD government with external and internal lobby.

The task is as easy as 1, 2, 3. But it may take many years, but so what? provided there is unity and honesty among DNF members.

Remember "THE MAKTAB DEAL? WHERE IS THE MONEY? About 2 crores takas.

In Dhakiyas language they say:-

"SHEALAY JAY BOROI KHAILO...LOBON PAILO KOI?" HAY BETA JAY UTTORAI BARI BANAILOW TAKA PAILO KOI?

I agree with my brother Khawjeh mahmud Ahsunollah regarding the way the family fortunes have are being squandered by some of our members and who are not sharing equally with the other members the proceeds of any property sales etc .I was made aware of this by the previous manager of the Dhaka Nawab Estate. My brother is right in saying that this is also partially due to members residing abroad but I would like to say that the family members in Dhaka who I am sure are capable of organising themselves and trustworthy could put themselves out to helping their family members abroad and I am sure they will be supported morally and financially if it was done properly. Alas no one has come forward to assume this responsibility.

I agree to everything that you have said and written about the Dhaka Nawab family land and would implore the younger generation myself included that has a stake in this to ask questions and seek answers from the people that have unjustly taken members rights.I am glad and give you and other family members credit for starting the Dhaka Nawab Family official Blog.

This a worthwhile issue. As I said on my last post that a united stand with 2 lawyers in Dhaka is the way to go.

It may cost some money to the DNF members. However, future rewards are much greater.

Let the lawyers handle the whole situation. Take action and talk is cheap.

Original poster indeed did a great job posting this article.

Without beating about the bush,
I would like to say that the apprehension of the family members is not about having to collect money for the lawyers(because in essence this is not our job the Nawab B Estate and Moulvi Abdullah Welfare Trust have enough in their coffers to come up with the money for the lawyers), but the fact is that this is an impossible task.

What we should do instead is create awareness about the contribution of the family and its members in the media in Dhaka. We should actually have an annual get together in Dhaka on the grounds of the Ahsan Manzil where we could also invite the Minister of Information, the Speaker, the PMs Press Secretary and other members of the media. Also members of the Shadow Govt would attend. Family members from all around the world should attend.

I do believe that there is an annual event in Dhaka every year which Begum Ahsanullah presides on. We should indeed glorify this event and bring in speakers such as Ambassador Farooq Sobhan
and Ambassador Kaiser Morshed to lend credibility to the event.

We should also urge the Govt. to host state receptions at the Ahsan Manzil as is the practice in India, Pakistan and other parts of the world. They host state receptions at historical palaces.

Let's just start by doing one thing at a time and let's plan for a family get together either in July or December 2007 in Dhaka. Half of this year is already gone.

What say you? family members?

The objective here is to recover in the name of DNF members Khas land worth Tk 1,476 crore.

Many years ago starting from 1975 to 1985. Objective was also to recover assets of AWT from Mahakobi and the lootera gang. After spending over Taka 20 lacks and 10 years came success! It was a one man's dream, determination and effort with non-financial help from few other DNF member, to hire attorney, go to court, hold meetings and strategy sessions, collecting evidences etc. etc. There is no need to discuss whose determination was that and from where funds came to remove MAHAKOBI.

The reality and the truth is "NO BANGLADESH GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL(S) CAME FORWARD FROM EITHER SIDE OF DNF FAMILY to help. As a matter of fact, they did not even attend a single meeting or strategy sessions or gave any advise.

With all due respect, I must point out that it is not only the money that are needed first. It is the determination to recover those assets from illegal hands is first foremost and absulutely necessary. Money comes at last.

Once again,

The objective here is to recover in the name of DNF members from both side Khas land worth Tk 1,476 crore.

A solid strategy is necessary for the above task, as follows:-

(1) Determination to go after the illegal holders of the assets and lands in a legal way. (One need a legal strategy and no one can do it without an attorney)

(A MUST DO) Formation of a committe from the both side of the DNF teams.

(1) Bring the matter before a court or jurisdiction with legal filling.

(2) Once the matter is before any court in Bangladesh. This becomes a recorded legal issue

(3) Than start public relation work related to this issue on local media in Bangladesh for public awareness(print and electronic)

(4) In land related dispute Bangladeshi government servents does not have any influence. Regardless of how so-called big they are. Its like influence of U.N over U.S Policies. Its actually worthless and waste of time.

(5) Please note, the proposed, legal battle before court may reveal or flash out other dishonesty of the officials of the court of wards as well as few other family members, who illegally sold or mortgage lands and assets that may belong to others including you!

Respectfully Submitted
